Car Crashes Still on the Rise Due to Texting While Driving

Texting and Driving

Everyone knows that texting while driving poses a danger on the road and can cause car accidents.  Likewise, with the popularity of cell phones, social media, and instant check-ins have only increased the publics risk for either being killed or gravely injured in a car accident.
As a result, many states have banned the use of a mobile device while diving in an effort to curb the amount of car crashes.

Statistics of Distracted Driving in 2014:

  • 18 percent of car accidents were due to distracted driving
  • 3,179 were killed and 431,00 injured because of distracted driving
  • In the U.S. 660,000 drivers use cell phones while behind the wheel
  • 10 percent of teen drivers who are killed in car crashes were due to distracted drivers
How to Help

It is common sense that one way to stop car crashes due to distracted driving is to simply put down the cellular devices.  However, stopping the use of electronics while driving is easier said than done, especially with young drivers.  It is important that parents speak to their children about the dangers of using cell phones while driving.  Likewise, parents must learn to take an active role in their children’s knowledge of the dangers of driving while distracted.

To date, it seems that driving while distracted and car crashes have only increased as well.  The National Safety Council reports that 1.6 million car accidents to date are caused by using a cell phone while driving.  Additionally, 1 out of 4 cars is using a cell phone while driving.  Sadly, just a few simple adjustments to not using phones while driving would save many innocent lives.
