A car accident
that occurred late Monday night in Illinois has claimed the life of a Tazewell County Sheriff’s Deputy. At approximately 10:30 p.m., 44-year-old Craig Whisenand was responding to a domestic disturbance call when dispatchers lost contact with him. The deputy was traveling on Springfield Road southbound when he apparently lost control of his vehicle, became airborne, and collided with a tree. His squad car was discovered shortly before midnight, and he was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Authorities are investigating the accident and are not yet certain of the cause. Speculations lead to a deer or other animal entering the deputy’s path. Blunt force trauma was listed as the official cause of death by the county coroner. Officials believe that more evidence from the squad car will indicate the exact cause of the accident. Whisenand had been a deputy for ten years and was married with two children.
