Illinois Woman Charged in Fatal Crash

A Columbia, Illinois woman has been charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter resulting from a car crash that occurred last week. According to Greene County prosecutors, 35-year-old Antonia Livia-Reiss was traveling at approximately 96 miles per hour when she lost control of her vehicle, and she collided with another vehicle. That vehicle was an SUV that had stopped and contained two occupants, 72-year-old C.L. Lewis and 69-year-old Barbara Lewis. The impact of the crash ejected the couple from the vehicle, and they were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. More charges could be filed against Livia-Reiss once the results from the toxicology reports are received.
Fatal auto accidents occur thousands of times each year, and the majority of these accidents are preventable. Reckless and negligent driving in the forms of inattentive driving, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and driving aggressively claim the lives of thousands of individuals. The devastating event of losing a loved one is something no one wants to face. The uphill battle of grief can be difficult, and families should be able to focus fully on each other during that heartbreaking time. The financial stress placed on the victim’s families can result from medical bills, funeral expenses, and loss of economic support. There is no amount of money that can replace a life; however, if you have lost a loved one in a preventable accident you may be able to recover financial compensation for your damages.
