Man Killed in Metro-East Work Accident

A work-related accident has killed a man in Madison County, Illinois on Thursday. The accident happened around 9:19 a.m. in Alhambra when a worker was electrocuted. The worker, 34-year-old Geoffrey L. Walthes from Germantown was working at a construction worksite near the intersection of East Main Street and Wall Street when he came into contact with a live power line. As soon as contact was made, Walthes fell off a scaffolding and onto the ground below. An ambulance transported him to the emergency room in Highland where at 10:38 a.m. he was pronounced deceased. Steve Nonn, the Madison County Coroner, will conduct an autopsy to properly determine the exact cause of death. An investigation is ongoing by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Workplace accidents claim the lives of thousands of employees every year in the United States. Workers who experience injuries at work will likely incur medical expenses and loss of income. In the event of losing a loved one in a work-related accident, funeral expenses and loss of economic support can also affect the victim’s family. Losing a loved one is a heartbreaking event and to learn that your loved one’s life was taken in a preventable accident is devastating. No amount of money will replace your loved one; however, filing a wrongful death case can provide financial assistance for your damages.
