A single-vehicle auto accident has injured a woman in Belleville on Thursday. The accident happened at approximately 1:40 p.m. when a woman overturned her vehicle along Old St. Louis Road. According to deputies with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department, the unidentified woman was operating a BMW hatchback passenger vehicle. She was traveling eastbound when the BMW left the roadway, collided with a tree, and overturned in the yard of a housing duplex in the 6200 block. The driver was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated. She was transported by ambulance to the hospital where her condition is unknown. Deputies are unaware if she lost control of the vehicle or if she swerved to avoid an object in the roadway. The accident is under investigation.
Thousands of auto accidents occur every year in the United States and can include SUV rollover accidents, single-vehicle accidents, and motorcycle accidents. Individuals who sustain injuries in single-vehicle accidents often assume that they do not have grounds to file an auto accident case. An accident involving one vehicle may be caused by the negligence of the driver; however, it may also be caused by dangerous roadways, mechanical defects, or design flaws. An assumption should never be made regarding a car accident without receiving a proper investigation.
