A southern Illinois woman received a $1,000 fine for causing a motorcycle accident that killed a man. In November 2014, 57-year-old Terry Rawson was traveling on Stotlar Road when his motorcycle was rear-ended by 28-year-old Brittany Lane. Rawson, a Sesser, Illinois resident, and former school sports coach, was killed in the accident. Authorities subpoenaed Lane’s cell phone records, and there is no evidence that she was using her phone at the time of the accident. She was convicted of following too closely to a vehicle and failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident. On Wednesday, Lane received a $1,000 fine that is the maximum amount. Her driver’s license has also been revoked for one year, and she has been ordered to repay any court fees. The Williamson County State’s Attorney is requesting that Lane’s driver’s license be revoked for three years instead of just the one.
